After almost 1.5 year of collaborated efforts from both sides and support from various parties (mainly partners from EXCITING project), the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation between the Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation (AIOTI) [https://aioti.eu/] and the Alliance of Industrial Internet (AII) [http://en.aii-alliance.org/] was officially signed on November 8, 2018 during the 5th World Internet Conference – Wuzhen Summit (http://www.wuzhenwic.org/).
The MoU was signed during the “Digital Economy – from Zhejiang to the World” session of the Wuzhen Summit. AIOTI was represented by Mr. Kees Van der Klauw and AII was represented by Ms. Duo Liu.
The MoU highlights AIOTI and AII’s intentions to contribute to the creation and development of IoT industries and relevant applications for society. Furthermore, through cooperation, the parties aim to promote the development of a digital economy by focusing on the harmonization of various aspects related to IoT.
Specifically, AIOTI and AII have agreed to promote cooperation in the following areas:
- Promotion of interoperability by harmonizing reference architectures
- Identification and exchange of good practices
- Collaboration on projects implementing topics of joint interest (test beds)
The EXCITING project, particularly the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), which is an affiliate of the AII, Martel and Huawei have played an important role in this process, including having initiated the idea of an MoU between the two organisations, identified the relevant contacts from both parties and for supporting closely the entire agreement process over 17 months since March 2017.
EXCITING is very pleased to have witnessed the birth and launch this important milestone, and will continue follow its progress on facilitating collaboration on IoT innovation from industry in EU and China. It is believed that this cooperation will bring significant impact to the World’s IoT domain, facilitate IoT deployment, and encourage new opportunities.
